Dr Johan Christiaan Augustyn is a General Surgeon with extensive experience in acute care and trauma surgery, and a particular interest in surgical oncology and gastroenterology.
After matriculating from the Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch in 2003, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Stellenbosch University in 2009. He is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa and received his Master of Medicine in Surgery, also from Stellenbosch University, in 2022.
Dr Augustyn attributes his passion for surgery to the tangible, often lifesaving interventions this discipline enables, skills he has honed since 2015 when he started his surgical training at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, where he acted as a medical officer in general surgery, with rotations in trauma and critical care at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital.
After a brief stint as a medical officer in general surgery at the George Provincial Hospital, he moved to Tygerberg Hospital where he served as registrar in general surgery until July 2022, notching up five years of valuable surgery experience and completing his master’s degree.
Now back in his home region and based at the newly built, ultra-modern Mediclinic Stellenbosch, Dr Augustyn’s expertise is at the disposal of medical teams and patients in Stellenbosch, the surrounding Winelands region and beyond.
In his free time, he relishes spending time with his friends and family. He enjoys a wide variety of sports, especially those which draw him to the ocean like kayaking, triathlons and surfing.
